The development of the Greater Bay Area goes beyond finance, legal and logistics. Culture is a key component that is less mentioned, according to a feature in SCMP.
Enriching Guangdong’s cultural sector by introducing Hong Kong’s performing arts to the region is a mission that is being taken up with gusto. The Hong Kong government has set aside HK$140 million (US$17.8 million) in funding for “Greater Bay Area cultural exchanges” to be held between 2018 and 2023.
While the initiative has already given Hong Kong’s artists more opportunities to perform at some of the most stunning venues in the region, they also have to face a number of challenges, such as small audiences in underdeveloped markets and media censorship.
