Guangzhou, Foshan to build ‘trillion-plus’ zone

Guangzhou and Foshan are planning to jointly develop a new Greater Bay Area “hub” centered on the Guangzhou South Railway Station. The aim of the project is to create a cluster of new strategic industries, with input from Hong Kong and Macau, which will be valued at more than RMB 1 trillion.

The announcement of the project, which is grandly titled “South Station Area”, was made late last week but took a few days to be picked up by local media. Here are the basic facts:

Panyu sees boom in visitors

This past National Day Golden Week reaffirmed Guangzhou’s Panyu district as the province’s premier tourist zone. From October 1-7, the district, home to the Chimelong Group’s trio of world-class theme parks, received 3.502 million visitors, up 12.2% YoY. They generated tourism revenue of RMB 1.768 billion. up 13.8% YoY.

Just prior to the start of the holidays, Panyu got a welcome boost from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which released a list of 71 National Tourism Demonstration Zones. Panyu was one of only two in the province on the list.

Chimelong boosts plans for Panyu base

The country’s premier amusement park developer, Chimelong, is not only focused on building Zhuhai’s Hengqin into a global tourism hub. It has continued to grow its business in its original base of Guangzhou’s Panyu district, where it recently secured two new land parcels for RMB3.587 billion. The expansion will include a new amusement park and a 10,000-room hotel. 

The two sites, which cover 500,000 sqm, will be used for the construction of a new amusement park and a 10,000-room hotel complex.

Dongguan-Panyu expressway opens

A new 64.48km expressway running through Dongguan from east to west opened its first phase this week. The road is important for Dongkeng Town, Hengli Town and Qiaotou Town, linking them to the western side of the Greater Bay. It is also seen as a vital link on the entire road network between the western side and Huizhou, which is to the east of Shenzhen and Dongguan.

The key component of the expressway is the second Humen Bridge, also known as the Nansha Bridge, which opened recently.
