Shenzhen Metro has launched a new service to allow passengers to recharge their Hong Kong Octopus Card – presumably before crossing the border for a visit.
It’s not only about subway rides. People in Hong Kong use Octopus cards to pay for many things. The card can be recharged with Renminbi – it will automatically convert the amount into Hong Kong dollars.
How does it work? Placing the card in the censor zone, choose the amount to top up and pay with the bank card or through the QR code which supports Alipay, WeChat Pay and Union Pay’s Quick Pass. The machine will convert the Renminbi according to the exchange rate of the day.
