The new Shenzhen International Convention and Exhibition Center, the largest in the world upon completion, will be put into trial operation in June, according to Shenzhen Daily.
Some interesting facts about the RMB24.4 billion (US$3.87 billion) new convention and exhibition center: it has a building area that equals six Beijing National Stadiums and enough metal roofing to cover 106 soccer pitches. At one of the halls, there is a wall consisting of 4,084 diamonds in a geometric formation and installed piece by piece. There is also a 8 meters tall, 6 meters wide door that weighs 6 tons.
This new development is located north of the Shenzhen International Airport; a new city district centering around the airport and convention center is quickly in the making to boost the industrial vigor of Shenzhen’s west coast and for the city to radiate its influence to the Pearl River Delta Area.
