Dongguan-based Huawei Technologies appears to be plucking the lion’s share of talent from China’s elite educational institutions. This is according to the 21stCentury Business Herald, which analysed graduates’ career moves after finishing studies at the country’s top 10 universities.
Eight of these universities have sent the largest percentage of their students to Huawei, which handed out a total of 1,682 offers to fresh graduates in 2018.
Indeed, Guangdong as a whole has become a favorite destination for China’s college graduates. Take Peking University for example, in 2014, only about 10.43% of its undergraduates opted for Guangdong, but in 2017 and 2018, it has grown to 33.59% and 32.62%. In 2014, 11.57% of its master degree students chose Guangdong as a career destination; in 2017 and 2018, this increased to 25.34% and 25.25%.
Besides Huawei, Tencent, ZTE, China Merchants Bank, and Ping An are also among the graduates’ top choices.
