Huanggang Port, the first and only 24-hour cross-border port between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, connected to Lok Ma Chau on the Hong Kong side, is to be completely rebuilt over the next 3.5 years. Renovation work will not prevent daily operations from continuing, but some disruption is inevitable.
The port has been in use for 30 years and is still the main cargo port between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, despite the addition of three others as well as the recent opening of a fourth. A temporary customs building will first be built before the old one is removed and a new one built in its place. The new building will be vastly bigger and will include a station for Intercity Railways. It will become a major integrated transportation hub in the GBA.
