Guangzhou’s Huadu district will spend RMB1.3 billion building a connecting road from Guangzhou Baiyun AirportTerminal 2 to the Second Airport Expressway, which is needed to ease traffic congestion on the existing expressway, according to a report from Southern Daily.
Terminal 2 opened in January last year. But already, it is being inundated by passenger flows. It is estimated that the airport will serve 80 million passengers by next year and 95 million by 2035. Therefore, the road connection is seen as vital. Several railways are also being built in the coming years that will connect to the airport.
The project is located in the north of Baiyun Airport, starting from the upcoming toll station on the second expressway in the east and extending to the north of the current Airport Avenue in the west. The road is designed as an urban arterial road with a speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour. Construction will commence in September and be completed in September 2022.
